Speed camera managers today said that accident figures used to justify a fixed speed trap in Oswestry were higher than they should have been.
But the West Mercia Safety Camera Partnership has said the controversial Gobowen Road trap is in the right place and will not be removed.
In a statement today, bosses said that two roads were included in the collision statistics for the area when they should not have been, pushing up the number of serious accidents.
In June this year, the partnership said there had been 42 accidents involving injuries, seven of which had been serious or fatal. But it has emerged that the figures should read 31 injury collisions, six of which were serious.
The partnership today said it was "surprised and disappointed" to find the original analysis conducted three years ago was wrong.
Project manager Trevor McAvoy said: "Even on the revised information, the site conforms to the Department for Transport's site selection requirements, and enforcement of the speed limit in this way continues to be highly appropriate to the local need."
Now we know how the reduction figures come from.
