Annual statistical publication 'Transport Statistics Great Britain" has just been released:

I've been looking for a nice clear PR angle, but so far haven't found one. The truth is that we had quite a good road safety year last year (2004) (assuming they aren't fiddling the figures...). That makes it hard to have a good pop without being petty.

If there is no angle then probably best to say nothing The only thing you could correlate would be fewer cameras = fewer accidents or similar. Peak pratnership behaviour was 2003. I'm sure you mentioned how the reduction in pratnership activity was starting to make the roads a little safer again. There is always the weather angle to consider if there were many fewer motorcyclists killed because the summer was crap.

I've just had a quick scan at it, the only thing I can see is something that has already been highlighted recently - drink driving and guilty motoring offences . See pages 146/147 - 8.6/8.7 (both of these sections only cover uptil 2003)

Breath test performed have gone from 600,000 in 1993 to a high of 800,000+ in 97/98 down to 534,000 in 2003

Positive results (including refused) was 13% from 1995-2000 and is now up to 20% in 2003

I believe this is true - 2003 was a good year for bikers but in 2004 most did many fewer miles than usual.
