Friday's "Express" had the horror story of a traffic warden who was attacked by two bikers in Paddington. He was not even issuing a ticket at the time.

but noting the numbers and times. The six inch blade went straight through his hand which he raised to protect himself and had he not done so that knife would have been in his heart.

The bikers jumped on their bike and rode off leaving the warden with the knife embedded in his hand. It took a six hour operation to remove it and reparit the damage to the nerves and tendons in his hand - and too early to say if he'll recover.
Apparently this is the third attack on London's wardens and whilst I will admit that I find many wardens to be more intent on getting their bonuses on tickets issued and some not overly pleasant in manner, trying to murder them is not the answer.
I was down in Manchester on Friday for a "bit of a do" and I was surprised at the reaction of a young traffic warden when I asked directions. She seemed a bit nervous when I first approached her, as if she expected angry words over something, and visibly relaxed at my nice reassuring smile and enquiry at the best way to avoid the CM wallies
CM is another rant - it caused chaos in Manchester's Friday rush
Of course, the warden had only been in the job for three months and it's possible the attack was personal and not simply because he chose to do this job.
