I read in the Bolton paper that a speed hump in Breightmet whcih is higher than the legal size is to be removed and replaced. Incidentally it was not a little oversize - but 25% oversize! This is not the only one in Bolton.

Two questions arise:

1. Why has it taken a campaign by my Conservative colleagues and local residents befor the council recognised the error?

2. Will the contractor who wasted time and money for Bolton taxpayers no longer be engaged to carry out work for the council?

The public deserve to know the answers from the ruling Lib Dems

I write regarding the recent letters on traffic speed.

When I look back on old photos of Bolton, I am stiurck by how much quainter the roads used to look before tarmacadam came along :roll:

The cobbles did not only look quaint, they had a natural limiting effect on speed vehicles were driven... :roll:

We then decide to cover these with tarmacadam to give a smoother surface and ride..

Then the powers that be decide that this encourages peope to drive too fast on the tarmac so they decide to instal huge artificial lumps on the road to slow them down

Perhaps it would have been cheaper and better to have left alone


Well .... guess this guy has a valid point.... :wink: :roll: :? :shock:

I'm old enough to remember having driven on cobbled streets in this country and on quite a bit of pavé in France... Yup, the bumps keep your speed down, but it's absolutely lethal when it's wet.

bit of a shame for motorcyclists too - cobles are not easy to ride on wet or dry

The road where my Sister lives leads from one of the resovoirs up in the Derbyshire hills just off Woodhead pass.
The council decided in the infinate wisdom to install speed bumps.
Now, when it rains, the speed bumps channel the water straight into peoples gardens :? :? :?

you think it's bad on a motorbike, at least you have suspension. Try a road bike! It's like this :bounce1: without the smiling.
