Cobbled Streets kept speed downI write regarding the recent letters on traffic speed.
When I look back on old photos of Bolton, I am stiurck by how much quainter the roads used to look before tarmacadam came along
The cobbles did not only look quaint, they had a natural limiting effect on speed vehicles were driven...
We then decide to cover these with tarmacadam to give a smoother surface and ride..
Then the powers that be decide that this encourages peope to drive too fast on the tarmac so they decide to instal huge artificial lumps on the road to slow them down
Perhaps it would have been cheaper and better to have left alone
Well .... guess this guy has a valid point....
