Per Friday's "Wail" - Ray Massey and James Stock report...

Almost half of all criminal court cases last year were "less serious motoring offences"

The paper reports that judges heard less cases against muggers, burglars, rapists and others and more minor motoring cases - for speeding and seat belt offences... and most received the normal fines plus costs...costing and average £400.

RAC spokesman Kevin Delaney (ex traffic BiB) claims there is one law for burglars and another for drivers and other motoring groups slammed the Home Office stats as proving a "war on middle class and normally law abiding drivers" In fact Delaney is quoted thus:

I think some would like to ...but then we are gents and ladies - though according to my wife and an article she read whilst having her hair done - this is now politically incorrect language to describe ourselves as "civilised"

Delaney continues:



MMC of the ABD agrees that the government has declared war on drivers. The cases before the court are not the careless or dangerous driving charges or even drink driving... but speeding offences where driver chose to fight the charge, and tot up appearances. The court punishments are in addition to the 2 million scammered victims

The paper goes on to mention the past howlers which appeared in the courts: the chap who pinged the red light when he made way for ambulance, the man taking his pregnant wife to hospital and a couple of others.

offered the cps a chance to withdraw case , he nearly choked
AND AS OF YET I HAVE HAD TO OFFER NO EVIDENCE TO THE COURT
( dont tell them I haven't got any, but 1% chance is better than 0% chance of winning )
definitley a LAW ABIDING SOFT TARGET

It isn't just war on the middle class. A £60 fine would hit those of us who are not too well off pretty hard.

this is not just an attack on the middle classes,
it an attack on all who DRIVE and EARN A LIVING DOING SO.
AND ANYONE WHO DRIVES

The only , and I mean only reason I am doing this, is THE POINTS.
if IT WAS ONLY MONEY, I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE ROLLED OVER BY NOW.

but it is points that is putting GOOD and SAFE DRIVERS OFF the road,
this must be stopped.

Everyone who puts a key in an ignition and turns that key, wether he/she is a legal driver or criminal, accepts he/she could have an accident, wich could kill some one or themselves or innocent by standers, of ANY age size cread or gender.

This is a fact of life.

most who read this , will probably have not even concidered the responcibility that is incurred when turning that ignition key.

I see death on the road EVERY DAY, I drive 250 miles a day 6 days a week!

I see FRESH dead animals every day, just think how it died?
just think how much pain it suffered?
just think , WHAT IF THAT WAS A PERSON?
HOW WOULD YOU FEEL?

If you dont drive this amount of miles ,just concider the amount of deaths
you cause just driving to work , 18" in front of your face,

on the windscreen!

All this does is add strength to our side of the argument.

Considerable strength in fact, as it takes the speed camera problem out of the transport agenda and into that of law & order, which voters are generally more "passionate" about -

i.e. If the Police and the courts are spending so much of their time enforcing a (flawed) road safety policy, they are obviously spending less time keeping us safe from criminals.

The opposition would be crazy not to play on this.
