But Mr Todd says: “I believe speed cameras alienate the people we should be looking after.

“We only use cameras in areas where there is a risk of people being injured or killed, not to collect revenue. In return, we have retained the goodwill of the public. That has been vital for us in dealing with the top priority of arresting criminals.”

Blimey.... :o

I would agree, there aren't that many around here and I have seen just one mobile van in the last 3 years.

More proof that concentrating the efforts of Police Officers on the mindless persecution of motorists is a bad thing for crime figures. King Richard IV won't be liking this at all....

When Mayor Giuliani "cleaned up" the streets of New York, I wonder how many speed cameras he put up. I'm guessing not many....

Hmm, that would be why they put cameras on high-quality dual-carriageways that have suffered unjustifiable speed limit reductions from 70 to 50, or from 40 to 30, then?

And allow Tameside to use non type-approved Watchman cameras painted in camouflage colours (which can't do you, but can scare the shit out of you).

Yes, Greater Manchester isn't Staffordshire or Lancashire when it comes to cameras, but there's still plenty of cameras, and plenty of abuse of cameras.

This guy got hammered in Manchester press recently over his expenses claim.

In fariness - some of the scams have VAS/SIDS about 100m preceding them - A580/A6 into City Centre are ones I came across when driving to Manchester to give lecture at Uni there on my lurgies...

No - rephrase - not my lurgies...but lurgy lurgies ... :banghead:

So ...I decided against Regent Road due to some road works at the time - was quicker to go around the jam  marginally quicker

Some, however, are as direly placed as most...

Yep, they're strange ones in obvious revenue places, but they've been there for a long long time.

I'm not even sure the one on the A6 (Eastbound, just after the junction) works. I've seen plenty flash past it and nothing happen. Could be a dud.
