Police answer road queries on web

Phil O'Kane will answer questions on road policing online
A Lothian and Borders Police officer is to answer questions from the public about road policing online.

The event will take place from 1830 BST until 1930 BST on Wednesday.

Superintendent Phil O'Kane said the web chat was an exciting and inclusive way of letting the public raise issues of concern or interest to them.

Questions can be submitted up to 24 hours before the chat opens. No registration is required to view the site, only to ask questions.

Real time

Mr O'Kane said: "With the expansion of technology and the web it seems only sensible to embrace the advances of the 21st Century and offer the community the chance to talk about road policing issues to me online, in real time.

"With computers in our homes, schools, public buildings and the workplace, the web is a ready made arena in which to ask questions that require answers.

"We recognise that many people, of all ages and across the social spectrum, have the right to ask questions about the issues that affect them as a community and what we, as the police, are doing to deal with their concerns."

People with complex questions are advised to submit it as early as possible to allow plenty of time for a reply to be produced.

what a truely reduculous limit change - how were they able to justify that when they did the survey. drivers can't have been doing 20 before.

its only a matter of time before someone is injured by that dangerous and rediculous bit of road furnature.

sandly traffic will likely find alternative routes so it will be job done..

when is the govt. going to stop villiages treating visitors as tresspassers?

I'd be worried how visable that lot was at night.

we should have the safespeed gong awards for stupid road safery schemes...
1st prize goes to daresbury.

wrong thread it was supposed to be on the dewesbury 20mph limit thread.

It casts questions over the quality of their electrical supply system and backup and recovery mechansims.

In fact it raises serious questions about their entire operation. The only trace of truth I can imagine is that a user misprocessed them as part of post disaster recovery procedures.

Perhaps a humerous PR...

even God doesn't like speed camera partnerships :D

Speed limits are applied to make our roads safer for EVERYONE, not just a small few who consider themselves to be safe drivers.

THis comes across as rather hollow, seeing as the police can break the speed limit even on routine calls.

If he wants to say speeding is illegal (but not for the police) so we will enforce it because we can, fine. It's a poor argument but at least it's honest.

But once you start saying 'speeding is dangerous for everyone' then how can the police justify having a special exemption?
