Windscreen frames create deadly blind spots in cars
Quote:
MANY modern cars, including some popular small models, have blind spots that result in drivers pulling out at junctions without seeing an approaching vehicle, according to a Government report obtained by The Times.
It condemns European safety rules on visibility because they are based on an average-sized man and fail to take account of the viewing positions of smaller or taller drivers.
There was a fatal accident at a junction near where I live a few weeks ago. The details are not clear, but a van and a motorbike were involved. One was turning out of a side street and collided with the other one. The motorcyclist was sadly killed.
Traffic joining the main road has restricted visibility to the right because of a hedge. However if the motorcyclist was approaching from the right, it's possible that the windscreen frame was a contributory factor.
As I said, the details are unclear as there were no witnesses. However the majority local feeling was that what was required was a speed camera.
