These are villages now taken over by YUPPIES who commute into Newcastle everyday by 'haring' down the A1 or spine road. Would love to follow them about for a day with a video camera.

Police officer said ''this is not a speed camera, it is a Laser Speed Detection Device''. Got to laugh, or should I cry. /

Ok, is the device type approved? If it is to be used by police, how will the calibration be carried out if it is not in their possession? This is a legal mess. I doubt anyone will be issued with a FPN from this due to the risk of challenge. It's just a bluff and bluster scare story.

I would like to think that it is simply a case of the police and council trying to appease 'locals' concerns by giving them a salve to their perceived problem.
To be quite honest I thought the officer was about to burst out laughing when he described the camera as a LSDD on T.V.
I have travelled these roads for nearly 50 years and have always driven through these villages slowly (you have to in Ulgham- 2x90 degree bends) and cannot remember seeing anyone drive otherwise. Obviously the residents may see it differently, but, all there is past THESE villages is MORE villages, so any speeders are almost certainly VILLAGERS.

Untrained people ,with an un calibrated device ( have they got all the necessary paperwork - doubt it ) --suspect first chalenge would fail

AS some one said "BLUFF AND BLUSTER"--shoiuld be done for causing road hazards& wasting police time

No botach; the police are going to use the cam...., sorry laser space gun thingy, so they will (I presume) be trained - hope PCSO don't read this - the villagers have kindly bought it for them (scamming ain't as productive up here) as they can't afford their own.
Pure publicity stunt.

And have their heads cut off and put on spikes at the entrance to the village as a reminder of human folly. Oh dear, my Celtic blood seems to be coming to the fore. Time to go, methinks. :reaper:

I would hope they don't. Imagine two drivers in opposite directions coming through any of those villages, looking out for the gadget which could be in any one of 5, checking their speedos, going round a tight bend where the road is narrow.......bang! After all, things only happen if you make them happen.
