I was looking at the Roads and Highways page of Portsmouth City Council's website when I noticed something peculiar:

Image

Safe Speed has been included in the links section!

Portsmouth City Council of all councils too; a council currently introducing a citywide 20mph speed limit?

Has the council realised that "Speed Kills" is not the be all and end all, or is a disgruntled employee having a little protest?

  Fantasic! Well Spot sir.

I'm half tempted to move this thread somewhere quieter to help prolong the link within that page (I won't of course, I'm just sowing the seed ;) )

That's an interesting page they link to......I wonder if they've actually read it or just assumed it supported their wholesale reduction in speed limits (which,of course, it doesn't).

Here's what they want people to read:

Excellent! :D Most amusing.

Once again Smeggy has said the things I was going to say before I got the chance! :furious:

I do wonder whether they just visited the page and read the "Kill your speed or kill a child" bit. Splendidly ironic though: 20mph Portsmouth of all places!

I can only assume that they don't know who Safe Speed are. Either that or they've got a slightly mischievous webmaster....

I'll lay odds it is someone's parting shot.

Very amusing though :-)

That page is first on Google for 'kill speed' and third for 'kill your speed'. I expect they just spent 30 seconds trawling the web for keywords: although the description does read 'Advertising slogans like "Kill your speed or kill a child" are regularly trotted out.', which should have given them a clue as to the conclusion of that page!

Enjoy it while you can. Chances are that one of C****** P***'s finest bridge-dwellers have already notified the council. Can't have the truth getting out; the milking of the motorist must go on whatever the cost in lives. It's a small price to pay after all.

BTW the asterisks are just so that this thread can't be found by troublemakers searching for "C******"...and make no mistake, they do!

I'm really curious about the reason the link's there though; a shame we'll never find out. I don't suppose there's any harm in asking the council once it's been taken down, but council road safety divisions aren't exactly renowned for their straight talking....

(I didn't say the "L" word, so there!)

I don't think it should be kept quiet at all.

Is there a PR here Paul.......?

Portsmouth embraces the Safe Speed Message

Paul Smith said 'I am delighted that my message is getting through and that a local authority such as Portsmouth are posting links to the Safe Speed website. I urge other authorities to do the same so that we can return to proper road safety policy after this murderous obsession with speed cameras'

This could be a nice little awareness raising PR.

The papers will love it...particularly if it is a mistake by Portsmouth

Paul - all the external links on that page are either out of date or broken.

I mean the ones in the body of the article to reports etc?

The government have a habit of re-jigging their websites thus causing links to any pertinent documents to be broken.

Couldn't be to hide any proof of their "economy with the truth" could it?

Nah - it's gives the impression - or at least the opportuinity - for us to be painted as 'fringe'. Which we aren't. We're the real mainstream, and they are the dogmatists.

Does 'Official Endorsement' make Safe Speed 'Fringe'?

Maybe

but It think there's mileage in it if played correctly....it's certainly this week's story if nothing else pops up.

"dogmatists"

What a fantastic word :D

Perhaps the OED could make an adapted version that would be the collective noun for speed cameras?

A dogma of speed cameras?

A fallacy of Pratnerships?
