'Speeding driver' was not stopped

Police carrying out covert speed checks in Cheltenham did not stop one driver seen breaking the 30mph limit three times, two of them allegedly at 60mph.

The driver was observed by officers during an operation on Sunday night.

Paul Smith, of Safe Speed, said it was "...impossible to understand how police saw something they believed to be dangerous and didn't do anything".

In a statement Gloucestershire Police said: "In hindsight the driver should have been stopped and dealt with."

The force spokeswoman added: "It was the first operation in a number of years and a new experience for some officers.

"In any future operation officers will be briefed to stop those believed to be driving dangerously."

Undercover officers

The police operation was carried out on 11 November targeting motorists speeding in the town centre.

The first part of the operation was conducted by officers wearing high-visibility clothing in the Tewkesbury Road and Kingsditch Lane and nine drivers were caught allegedly breaking the 30mph limit.

During the second part later the same evening undercover officers carried out covert checks in the Bath Road area of the town and 40 motorists were recorded allegedly breaking the speed limit.

One vehicle was caught a total of six times and another was caught three times, two of those times the car was [allegedly] travelling at 60mph on the inner circuit in the town centre, police said.

Spot checks by police on speeding traffic in Cheltenham have revealed one vehicle was caught six times, two of them allegedly being driven at 60mph.

Health and Safety !!!

Stopping dangerous drivers might just be dangerous !!!

No one in the emergency profession must now do anything that is slightly dangerous.

Police are not now allowed on foot patrols where there is no pavement.

Soon the fire service will not be allowed to attend fires.

Ambulances will not be allowed to attend accidents.

The next thing will be that soldiers will not be allowed to fight against anyone using real bullets.
