Claire was on "John at Newstalk" at 5:20 pm today talking about the possible privatisation of speed cameras - for a FIVE YEAR period!

If they privatise speed cameras prosecutions will escalate umpteen fold and, won’t this just be a way for the Government and its Councils to relinquish responsibility because it's got too hot for them to handle.

Also, the same as we had with hypothecation - the commercial aspect will rule - they'll breed and spread like a cancer.

"Privatisation" of speeding offences is fundamentally different from decriminalising parking offences. Parking does not invove a criminal penalty (i.e. points) and a simple cash penalty (civil) is issued.

We will have to see.
