Deadly curse of Gatsos
SPEED cameras have been blamed for a leap in road deaths.
Safety campaigners hit out on Friday after ministers expressed concerns at the rise in an official report.
Deaths fell to 3,409 in 1998 but by 2002 climbed to 3,431. Shadow transport spokesman Damian Green said: ?What has changed is the increased reliance on cameras and the reduction of traffic police.?
Paul Smith of the organisation Safe Speed said: ?There is too much reliance on speed cameras.?
