Staffs Online, Covering the story that accident stats are better and this is thought to be due to the Speed Cameras because :
2004/5 - 45,000 NIPS issued
2008 only 3500 NIP's issued !

Journalist : Matt Bowling

Staffs.ac.uk/staffslive however the article has yet to appear ...

They've switched off most of the cameras! There's over 200 sites but most are dead as the pratnership can't afford to keep them all active. From what I remember only 10% are live at any one time and I don't think they are as active in changing locations as they were. There are mobile vans too and they hang around usually on good overtaking straights or occasionally in sensible locations. A lot of the time the vans are on the A34 around Newcastle where there are tons of cameras. Since they have been doing less enforcement the accident stats have actually improved it seems....it may of course just be RTTM at play as obviously there will be great variation between years depending on weather and economic conditions.
