Mmmmm - last year my County decided on a swathing round of limit cuts ,which they said they could afford . A year later , the same council as saying they cannot find the cash to repair the potholes caused by the winter . Oh , and in-between ,we had a change of leadership - was that caused by a motoring swing against the imbecilic range of limit cuts - be nice to think so ,but now the opposition will belittle the party in power for not having enough cash ( after the lot kicked out wasted it ) to repair the roads .Make a nice Brian Rix comedy -it it wasn't so serious.

As you know, I think that this ratcheting down of limits is the real issue we should focus on rather than simply the camera enforcement.

However, this article and some of the comments fail to understand that putting up a sign does not change the speed at which most people drive. All it does is criminalise reasonable behaviour.

So true. Over the last five years or so, at least 90% of Telfords' NSL roads have been slashed, mainly to 40MPH and one dual carriage way to a silly 50MPH. A recent FOI search to speed surveys carried out before xmas shows that some of these roads still have up to 70% of drivers exceeding the new limits...obviously the new limits are ridiculously low and local drivers are expressing their views in their actions but will the people who set these ridiculous limits ever see reason?

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.
