Speed Camera Resignation
(29 Jul 04)
As you?d expect, the news of the resignation of Barry Parnell, head of the Norfolk Casualty Reduction (i.e. speed camera) Partnership, following a report into the Partnership?s operations, was pounced on by the Association of British Drivers and the Safe Speed campaign.
The ABD is calling for an independent investigation into the UK?s 43 speed camera partnerships, noting that Barry Parnell resigned "after apparently being shown a highly confidential report raising doubts about the placing of cameras in Norfolk".
Paul Smith of Safe Speed says: "If the rules were flouted in Norfolk, and it took an investigation by the Chief Constable to find out, how can we have any confidence in other areas having their cameras properly administered and installed according to the guidelines?"
