Angry Dorset motorist 'deliberately' torches speed camera

A speed camera was deliberately torched today after a motorist was believed to have put a tyre around it and then set the tyre on fire.

Police and firefighters were called out to the burning device near Bournemouth Hospital in Dorset after midnight.

It took around 10 minutes for the fire crew to put out the blaze, which police are treating as arson.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "It appears that someone may have placed a tyre over the camera and set light to it for the camera to be ignited."

Paul Smith, of the Safe Speed road safety campaign group, said it is the sixth incident of its type this week.

"It's going on a lot more. Motorists are probably at breaking point," he said.

Craig Moore was jailed for four months on Wednesday after he blew up a camera using explosives to destroy evidence of his speeding in Manchester.

The 28-year-old railway worker feared losing his job and being unable to support his family if caught speeding.

Oooh I have a hunch that one usually has a camera in it too!
Just after you've waited at two pointlessly long traffic lights and get a bit of road to get up to some speed blam, non-reflectorised speed camera. In trees. I should expect all the accidents around there would be because of the junction and would most or all be below the speed limit.
