I was very annoyed to see a talivan today on the a9 southbound at North Kessock.

This location is a dual carriageway. There used to be an at-grade junction and it was famous as an accident black spot. But about three months ago an underpass was completed eliminating the special dangers.

Safespeed issued the following PR at 18:36 Monday evening:

A Northern Camera Partnership camera van was spotted today at 2pm at North
Kessock on the A9 southbound. Such use is in flagrant violation of the spirit
of the rules for speed camera placement.

The rules for camera placement require a history of crashes and a history of
vehicles exceeding the speed limit. In this case junction re-engineering has
altered the road so substantially that crash history is irrelevant.

A new underpass was opened about three months ago, eliminating the well known
dangers of the North Kessock junction. It is those historical dangers that were
originally used to justify the use of speed cameras at the location.

behaviour from camera partnerships. This is all too typical of the way they
carry on. I'm just waiting for them to claim that the expected reduction in
crashes at North Kessock are due to their infernal camera van."

"I would very much like to see them attempt justify themselves. I'd be
absolutely delighted to debate the wider issues of speed cameras with them in
any media, but I strongly doubt that they will accept the challenge."

I’m very glad you are highlighting this type of devious data manipulation.

I hope that others understand this is totally different from the classic mathematical aberration RTTM, a.k.a. bias by selection).
Perhaps you should coin a phrase to describe this particular phenomenon so that everyone can refer to it easily.
I have previously described this as ‘bias on selection’; while being a correct description, people may get confused with it because it’s too close to RTTM.

Sorry to say this sort of thing is standard procedure by the scamerati in the well established partnerships.

We have a road here which has had it's limit reduced from 40 to 30, a number of mini roundabouts and new traffic islands introduced and several fixed cameras erected at the same time.

Seems the Highlands are following the same well trodden path.

I drove south on a9 past north kessock on 6th dec. I was on the lookout for the 50 limit signs but saw none On rounding a bend at 70mph I spotted a mobile camera van.
Has the limit been raised? No nasty letters yet, but there's still time as they have 14 days to issue a letter?

The 50mph limit has ended. It's 70mph now.
