taken from the T2000 web site.

Quote:
•Driving sensibly: Keep to 40 or 50mph, even on motorways, and don’t accelerate too rapidly.

Priceless.

Priceless.

Utterly fatuous... Accelerating gently over a long period uses much more fuel than brisk acceleration followed by a steady cruise as well..

weren't the m4 protestors roundly critiscised for driving at 50mph and the recent fuel protestor's leader was arrested for going 40ish.

Getting driving tips from Trainspotting 2000 is like having your butcher telling you about vegetarianism or getting marital (  nudge nudge) advice from the Pope.

I was doing 45-50mph most of the way, then again I was near the front of the pack.

Cheers

I put 300 miles on the bike that day including getting there and back. What a great day out...

Where about on the T2000 site can this joke be found?

Spot on, Pogo. And for those posters too young to remember, the original design criteria of British Motorways was for a cruising speed of 70mph.

Things have gone full circle - in those days 70 ,in some cars , was an unatainable dream. The average 1500 saloon would do 85 floored after a few miles on the flat. But with petrol at 5s (25p to the kids) per gallon, who cared.

Holy moly, it's real!

http://www.transport2000.org.uk/news/ma ... icleID=265

Further proof (as if it were needed) that T2000 doesn't really have a clue about road safety.

40MPH on a motorway that isn't completely empty would be suicidal, in my experience.

BiBs, what's your position on this?

:gatso2: I've just tried to access the T2000 website, unfortunately it seems to be unavailable. About bloody time and all! Who wants to pay attention to their road safety advice anyway? They're about as helpful as an ejection seat in a helicopter.

T2000 is indeed down at present.

However, when working, their messageboard is a hoot! Every single posting is checked before being put up to make sure it doesn't say anything to controversial.

You have to sift through mountains of drivel posted by a Stuart Black (who I suspect is the moderator), who doesn't seem to care about anything except London public transport, but there are some gems.

Scroll down to about August, where it starts getting worryingly pro-car, until a sniffy message is posted by the moderator effectively saying "don't post if you don't agree with everything we say"

I can laugh about it now, but after countless thousands of miles commuting on the M25 I can honestly say that some days I would dream of attaining 40 mph on a motorway. The exact opposite would often have been true - driving at 70mph would have been not only suicidal, it would have been murderous as well.

Now my commute includes the M58 - the antidote to years of M25 driving!

And they (trolls) take a pop at us for freedom of speech

Anyhow they still only get about 250 site hits a day. I suspect Keith Black accounts for about half of them.

Considering how many organisations link to them the figure is pathetic. About sums them up I think.

In fact it can be quite an entertaining game seeing what you can manage to sneak under their radar to appear on the message board.

If it wasn't censored I suspect the T2000 message would be drowned out
