I always find M6 J14 South a particularly hard one to join at. The motorway is elevated at this point, so it is a steep climb, and you are hidden from view by a wall until the join begins, and then it is one of the shortest joins I have seen.

Also several off the M1 Watfordish and the M25, round about Kings Langley with severe curves on the exit and not forgetting the M6/M42 southbound junction.

I notice that most of the junctions mentioned are quite old. My concern is that as traffic conditions have changed, and motorway speeds are generally higher, we should expect new junctions such as those mentioned in my original post to be better designed. In neither of these cases is there a shortage of land, necessitating a tight layout. It would be interesting to know if the guidelines for motorway junctions have changed over the years.
On the positive side, the majority of UK junctions are much better then the cloverleaf junctions which are so common on the continent.

At least they tend to be free-flowing though, whereas we make do with a signalised roundabout with left turning slips if we're lucky.
