It is still a fossil based oil so generates Co2 which is what they are worried about.

Would have thought that the environmentalists would be more worried about the poo that comes out of the side and underneath of older diesel trains/units than the co2.One loo per carriage = awfull lot of poo.Newer trains have sealed systems, older ones spew it out.

I once saw a "heritage" (ie old stock brought out for trainspotters) train running down the now-defunct Weymouth Harbour line, which ran down the street like a tram.

Someone clearly took a dump, as it lay a pink loo-roll wrapped turd in the road right in the town centre...

And why wasn't it answered?? Because they are sponsored by the public transport industry.

Here's one that should really get their ignorant little heads spinning - try asking them why there is fuel duty on biodiesel. It is after all a carbon neutral fuel (ie. the plants which grow the materials to make it take in the same amount of C02 as the machinery running on it give out).

I'm not a big fan of today's brand of pseudo-environmentalism (as I see the motivation behind it as a disguised form of communism), but the whole biodiesel issue underlines completely the hypocrisy of environmental policy on all sides, from the oil producers stifling its development under a veil of suspicion, to governments frightened to lose its scary-monster reasons to tax fuel so highly. Meanwhile the likes of T2000 are suckered right in...

Now heard this today on radio "opinions are inaccurate ,suspect and biased" - no thet were not talking about T2000, OR THE SCAMERATI but "expert witnesses", but having heard theitr twaddle, who could blame me

Their message board has finally started up again, and most of the new posts are rubbishing their claim that the cost of motoring has fallen "in real terms".

Oh, and good old Stuart Black warbling on about something else entirely....

Hold on....so what if it has. Motoring is a technology lead industry. Technology is getting cheaper. How many other technologies have kept pace with inflation, Could you get a colour telly for less than a hundred quid in 1970...no but you can now. So why should the government artificaly keep motoring costs high when the industry is working so hard to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

Unlike public transport motoring is almost entirely market driven. It is a good example of free enterprise.

If we enter into the argument of whether the cost of motoring has gone up in real terms we are playing into their hands. It is not a relevant argument and has had far more discussion that it deserves. The argument for state intervention in falsely manipulating the market amounts to communism in my book. If they want to get people to use public transport they need to provide a cost-effective, efficient, safe alternative, not punnish people financialy for not doing so.

I see mad Ken has just put up the tube train costs for zone 1 from £2 to £3. That should get people using the transport.....what a twat, I rest my case

The last time I heard them make the claim, the best they were going for was that the cost of motoring had stayed the same in real terms. Perhaps they've just decided to aim their sights a bit higher?

Oh no......revelation!

Mad Ken puts up congestion charge from £5 to £8 (40%)

but tube travel from £2 to £3 (50%)

That means car travel has come down 10% in real terms.........

3 Quid!! Hell's Bells! I spend a lot of time in Barcelona - the Metro costs 1 Euro (approx 68p) for anywhere in the city... That's less than 25% of the cost of Red Ken's Chariots.

Still... Proves he's not completely daft - puts the Congestion Charge up to force people onto the tube, then puts the price of that up as well.. "Loads a money!!!". I'm glad I don't have to visit London any more.

That makes sense.

You could just imagine the mentality of the guy.....perfectly happy pootling along at 40 mph in a 60 limit....

Or maybe he drives sooooooooooo slow that everyone else passes him.

I ration my visits. I don't want their hit rate to go over the 250/day rate...

I do see they have been getting a bit of a rebellion over the relative cost of motoring.
