What about ostrich?

Never seen a live one running about the west coast or in the midlands -are they a problem east of Inverness

There's a bit of a craze for ostrich farming, including Scotland: http://www.google.com/search?q=%2B%22os ... cotland%22

Ostrich is good eating meat. Wouldn't want to hit one though as all the weight is at drivers head height.

I've hit 2 dogs and a cat.

I was driving my mum in her Fiesta when the cat ran across the road, no time to hit the brakes, heard the thud :( as it was hit by the diff, and then saw it carry on running.
1st dog was also in same car; dog ran out of screened drive into the rear LH wheel and concussed itself... took the owner, a young lad round to his parents (wouldn't do that now...) who came round later to say dog was Ok and to thank me for stopping and reporting it etc.
2nd dog, at the exact same point on the same road, came running out of the same drive as before and hit it on the side, cracking my no. plate in the process; the dog rolled over and carried on running. at the time (14yrs ago) I didn't know you had to report it, so didn't.

Lest someone take offence - that remark( about ostrich) was meant jovially.

Never really hit other than rabbits in this country. In africa ,you tried to spot anything so as not to hit it, most of it was bigger than a Landrover-the previous bloke in my job had a narrow one - everything rear of the bonnet lowered to bonnet height - didn't spot Kudu in time. The most interesting one was bullfrogs. First one i ran over thought it was a blowout - "bang"-got out to find flattened bullfrog, bang was it's throat full of air going the way a crisp packet goes.Handy after a long night - the bangs woke you up.

what's one of those, then?

Please note, I'm NOT asking "what's a Kudu?" to avoid smart-alec answers to "what's a Ku do?" :P

Extremely large (I.E BL***Y BIG) antelope - stomach area can be higher than a landover bonnet -but the steaks when sliced and done on BBQ- ---boootiful.

Good description on here --http://www.awf.org/wildlives/146

Pic don't do them justice , but can assure you very difficult to spot on tarmac at night.

Mummm.... Kudu....Just like Ostrich good eating! All antelope and other game is eaten regularly in Africa, although most is farmed for the meat (especially in SA). The only one that I am not so bothered by is Crocodile as I find it a bit fatty.

Of course in the wilder areas certain animals always have priority as they nearly always win - elephant and rhino being the most obvious, but buffalo is a close second. And of course you don't want to be stuck, injured in a smashed up vehicle in prime hunting time (dusk & dawn).
