Paul,

Winter is almost on us .
I know all the driving handbooks say "GOOD DRIVING PREVENTS SKIDS"
OK IT SHOULD. BUT THEN WHY DO THE ELITE OF BRITISH DRIVERS ATTEND SKID PAN TRAINING - POLICE DRIVERS - ANSWER - IF YOU GET IN ONE YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.ALSO HAVING BEEN IN A SKID TEACHES DRIVER HOW TO DRIVE TO AVOID ONE. IT IS ALSO AMAZING HOW MANY YEARS THE SKILL STAY WITH YOU.
THAT IS WHY I ADVISE AT THE START OF EVERY WINTER -FIND A LARGE CAR PARK LIGHTLY ICED UP - AND HAVE A FEW(SKIDS, NOT WHAT THE SHOPS MIGHT SELL). AS IN ALL THINGS START GENTLY.AFTER A FEW WHEN CONFIDENT STOP - YOU WILL FIND THAT THE DRIVING PART OF YOUR BRAIN REMEMBERS WHAT TO DO .IF NOT REPEAT DURING THE WINTER.
IS IT NOT BETTER TO HAVE YOUR FIRST SKID OF THE WINTER IN A CARPARK FREE FROM DANGER THAN ON THE OPEN ROAD WITH LOVED ONES ABOARD TERRIFIED FOR THEIR SAFETY.USUALLY WHEN THE CAR SKIDS THEY PANIC - IF YOU'RE TRAINED YOU IGNORE THEM AND GET OUT OF IT SAFELY - THE TRAINING, WHETHER SELF TAUGHT OF BY A SCHOOL TAKES OVER, THE MIND BLANKS TO ALL BUT THE TASK OF KEEPING CONTROL AND RISK IS MINIMISED.
