Pardon if this has been mentioned before - just seen one shown off for bikes on Hammonds 5 o'clock show, apparently the only one in this country - great idea , would be nice for cars too.

You're being utterly incomprehensible again.

WTF is a 'road trainer'? Is it someone who trains roads?

It was a road simulator for bikes, apparenly it's brand new from Japan. From the brief view it looked quite comprehensive but how much depth and reality it's got to accurately recreate real life road conditions was impossible to assertain from the quick glance we got.

Wasn't there a thread awhile back on simulators essentially saying that it would be very difficult(impossible?) to make a simulator that was a 100%(or as good as) realistic?

Riding a bike, like driving a car, is all about what you can feel, as the various forces at work with or fight against each other, changing with variations in the road surface etc, combining under the very general banner of "feedback". It's just more intensive (and critical) on a bike.

It may be the "most realistic" simulator produced so far, but it can never come even remotely close to the real thing.
