Why do they have white lines as they are very hard to see where there is fog and rain?

I can't say I've ever found it difficult to see them under either of those conditions. A couple of inches of snow make it a bit tricky though! I believe they have yellow ones in America. Don't know if they're any better.

White lines are not all that hard to see in rain. And please do not forget that many white lines are painted with special reflective paint. Why they are all not painted with reflective paint is a bit of a mystery. Probably on cost grounds.

Thanks for your comments thatsnew, where I am the white lines are painted without special reflective paint and yes maybe on cost grounds?

But I have seen in Cyprus, where lower level of trees are painted white and in other places the medium (spelling?) strips are painted black and yellow.
