A program called Good driver or similar
They did an eyesight test and found 1 in 10 failed the test, but they never mentioned how many struggled to pass it!.Up to £1000 fine for driving with defective eyesight. Wouldnt it be more productive from safety aspect and money raising strategy if they did spot checks on eyesight rather than relying on cameras? for every 10 drivers you get a thousand pounds and a blind f***er off the road!
I have always maintained that driver eyesight is a problem, the number I have witnessed struggling to pass it and the number who fail it is worrying, I used to see if pupils could identify things at 300ft, or if they could tell me which direction a car was facing at that distance...............it was amazing how many passed the required eye test but couldnt pass that if it were added to the requirement. Next time you are in a 60 limit or higher just think on....my own stats showed 1in 6 are driving with some kind of eyesight defect not corrected with lenses ( based on number struggling to pass eye test)and 1 in about 20 cant see clearly at 300ft and beyond. Now look up the overall stopping dist at 60 and 70 and thats if they see the hazard early enough! Next time you may call another road user a blind bat or the like, there is a good chance you are right.
