Police checks find vehicle faults

Fifteen vehicles have been banned from the road by police carrying out spot checks in two areas of Cumbria.

Operation Orwell, which aims to reduce the number of young people killed or seriously injured on the roads, took place in Penrith and Carlisle.

During the course of one afternoon, 45 offences were uncovered, 25 of them relating to young drivers.

These included not wearing seatbelts, having defective tyres, excess speed and mobile phone use.

Officers also said that as part of an emerging trend, a large number of vehicles were found to have excessive tint on the windows.

As well as prosecutions, six vehicles were issued with immediate prohibitions from being driven on the road and nine with delayed prohibitions.

I'm in favour of police out on the streets looking for dangerous cars and driving but "Operation Orwell"?

Who thought this up?

Perhaps those that read "all animals are equal ,but some are more equal than others " ,and the question is "did the author have an inkling of how things would turn out today "?
