I was heading towards the M6 when the traffic infront stopped due to a Police road block. Sat there for a short while and then a blue Volvo came past followed by two Police cars on blues and twos. At first I thought the Volvo driver was just trying to get out of the way as there was a queue in L1. However he carried on going and at that point one of the two Police cars holding the traffic up set off and the Volvo followed them, still with two more Police cars behind.

It was quite odd though, it certainly didn't appear to be a chase, more like an escort, but why all the Police cars? And who or what was in that slightly tatty Volvo estate?

Sorry I'm just being nosey but was quite strange and had me puzzled!

Basic pursuit training.

For obvious reasons I won't go into any more detail. :wink:

WHAT

Police will put up a road block and stop traffic for who knows how long just to facilitate a 'training exercise' :o

<Victor_Meldrew_mode_on>
I don't believe it
<Victor_Meldrew_mode_off>

You couldn't make it up could you??

At least they appear to have done it better than the Lancashire police who last year managed to damage 4 or 5 police cars while doing this on the M61. This was in one incident - not spread over the year

And here was me thinking it was the rush to get back to the canteen before all the pies had gone! :shock:

Seems sensible to practice at some point on real roads rather than just tracks. It would seem that sensible precautions were employed.
As the main road between Barrow and the M6, as well as a route to Sellafield, I would want the BiB/Trafpol to be familiar with procedures and where better to try out what you've learned than the road you are likely to be using the skills on eventually.

Ooh - playing cops and robbers again! :lol: Wildy was in that queue - think she guessed what was going on .... :lol:

Remember hearing of the incident on M61... J8? Where it leads into M65? Can see how it may have gone pear shaped from that road lay-out - in fairness.

Just approaching the Staveley turn off today when six Police bikes came into view on the opposite side closely followed by two identical grey blacked out Volvos with a further three bikes following.
The second Volvo was driving quite close and to the offside of the first car.
Couldn't tell if he overtook on or just blocked the junction on the ghost island at Staveley (it was clear).
Excellent to watch, what I saw of them!
Went onto Aldi at 3.30ish and have discovered this is a pick up point for the school run! Jesus Christ I have never seen anything like it, the place was packed with cars and the behaviour was atrocious, cars reversing into pedestrians, cuttings up like you wouldn't believe and just general selfish aggorant drivers Everywhere, a complete free for all!!!!
I was a chauffeur in London for three years and never saw anything like that!
Honestly go and have a look, they are f*****g animals!
Oh and why I'm having a rant -
On the same journey I was coming up the hill (plantation) I must of had at least thirty cars in front of me in the 1st lane so I saw no point in 'whipping' up the second on an overtake as they were too closely packed and I couldn't see any gaps to enter in the stream before two lanes becomes one again so I just stayed put in the queue.
Half way up a knob in a V.W. van hits the second lane and goes for it, 20 secs later he discovers he's about to run out of road with nothing but cars on the left so just barges in front of me with about a 2inch gap between us and then hits his brakes to avoid hitting the car in front.
PRICELESS

Similar story for me on Thursday - turning right at a junction, a nutter behind decides to overtake me and then turn right just as I'm making the turn - then immediately cuts off left into a car park without indicating :evil:

Paul, next time you think about passing Staveley, pop into the Mill Yard in Staveley for a chat! I'm next to Pan de Paris, the Bakers - they do some great breads and pastries!! :lol:
The bikes were in the Mill Yard on Thursday - I gave one of them a COAST keyfob - he'd not seen it before!

Plantation Hill? Happens all the time! Big safety issue when cars going down hill are able to use the middle lane - tend not to give way to cars coming up, or people who decide to turn right into the filling station.
I used to work there week ends - some near misses, but I was amazed no actual prangs!! :oops:

Thanks for the warning about Aldi. Unfortunately it isn;t confined to there!
Try Lakes School in the term time for more excitement than you can shake a stick at, or the cretin who double parks in Windermere, just above the Odana Cafe, at school run time - often for 15 minutes or more!
