Speed cameras never turned on
Published on 15/04/2006

SPEED cameras at a notorious accident black spot have still not been switched on - six months after being installed.

Road safety charity Brake has slammed Cumbria Safety Cameras for not turning on two fixed speed cameras on both sides of the A590 at Millside.

Drivers who speed past these cameras are not being prosecuted because the cameras are not live.

Cumbria Safety Cameras spokesman Kevin Tea blamed a planning problem for the delay.

Mr Tea said: “On the westbound, we should have a calibration certificate by the end of this week so it could be going live this week.”
