I thought it would be an excellent to catalogue the 'worst thinking' infecting present and future road safety. Here's a quick start:

* emotional thinking
* bad science
* dogma
* blind faith

Ideas please...

The idea that legislation is the solution for every problem.

Lack of trust in road users.

* Social engineering dressed up as road safety
* Official bodies to lose all credibility
* Driver quality to decline
* non-drivers in charge

If I say:

"hidden agendas",

what I mean is that road safety policy should ONLY be about that and not about making motoring less attractive to the public.

I was also going to say:

"revenue generation",

but I think maybe both those are covered by Smeggy's suggestion and Paul's "social engineering" one??

*Historical - 'Because it has always been done like that'

*Knee-jerk - 'Something must be done!'

"Think of the children" - Pretty much the same as the above, but a specific, and widespread case.

With Gordon Brown in charge, I think the fewer gut-shots we have on the TV the more likely I am to successfully keep my lunch down, so I definitely support this one.

Increasingly, I suspect:

* manufactured congestion aimed at furthering a political agenda
