Spent the last few weeks playing with what may be the world's newest and best speed camera - the RAF's new ASTOR system.
http://www.raytheon.co.uk/what_we_do/astor.html

Might be a bit pricey for the Scamera Partnerships, but I'm sure they could all get together :)

It's meant to watch for moving tanks on the battlefield, but we recently had the radar tracking almost every object moving at over 10mph in a very large portion of southern England! Amazing how many on the M25 were busting the 70 limit (even clocked one at near 130)!

Now if only i could figure out how to read numberplates from this distance I could set up my own "safety" partnership and rake it in! We could do a whole county in a few seconds!
To get around the visibility rules I could post every motorist a "caution - airborne speed cameras in use" air freshener to hang off their rear-view mirrors (and re-spray the aircraft dayglo pink).

Oh, and it doesn't set off radar detectors!

...(runs off to burst out in manic laughter)

Look, if you want to be ducked in the North Sea like a tea-bag then thats your lookout
For those not in the know, an Air Loadmaster is a glorified air steward :bunker:

Glorified air steward ! Right ! Haven't got the legs for it !

Besides that's the ALM 1's job he's the one up top doing the winch and serving the pilots their brew (NATO standard I hasten to add, not alcoholic, lord knows some of them used to fly like they were drunk, or mad).

Didn't do much in the way of teabag impressions, thank God. Spent most of it over the Peak District saving dosy walkers from themselves and a little bit of air ambulance duties.

I can only surmise from your poor opinion of the lofty ranks of aircrew ( ) that you were a grease monkey ?? :stirthepot:

Great stuff! Always trusted 'our' lads more than civvie techs, 'our' lads did a great job, and never had a SOH failure, especially when we kept feeding them coffee.

The civvie techs were another story, we went in one day and said to them 'Can we have another Seaking, we've broken this one!' Total SOH Failure.

:drink:

Cheers !!

Nice bit of kit, I'm sure it would pay for itself in 20-30 years!

and it's not going to work on people with cloned number plates!

(now an anti-speeding missile system.... hmmm)
:D

Is it still true a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo can
outrun a helicopter? Or could they ever?
I guess it depends which helicopter you use.

Then its a battle of who runs out of fuel first!

If it's a Lynx forget it, the Evo is going to be sucking avgas fumes !!

If it's a SeaKing, Evo is going to be off and away but would like to see an Evo carry 13 people plus kit for the same range as it

Not sure if that was a good or bad thing bloody kit added 4kg to your helmet, and with the lack of depth perception made judging distances hard. And least of all it allways gave me head and neck ache !!
