I always see motorway signs saying "THINK, DON'T
DRINK AND DRIVE" and that takes your eyes off the
road for so long it is just so crazy honestly.

Its the information I have a problem with.
Saying "Queue ahead" is good yes, but other info
like dont drink and drive, who is that aimed at?

People who are driving down the motorway and
are NOT drunk, do not need to read this whilst
driving and if they are drunk they would most
likely laugh at it, or have an accident.

These signs say some really silly things. I always
say if I were controlling them I would put so many
odd things like the football scores, weather, and my
own things like...

"CONCENTRATE. DO NOT READ THIS!"

My favorite is the 'FOG' signs on bright sunny days !!

Aren't they a bit like those bumper stickers in tiny writing saying "If you can read this you're too bl**dy close"?

One's around Edinburgh I have seen seem to have been put up by somebody with a sense of humour - last Valentines day one said "Dont forget the flowers!"

And the sign on top of junction 2 (northbound) on M6 - practically on the slip -says"Q after next junction" --is that after this one or the next?? --wouldn't it be simpler to state the number --eg Q after j3??

In 2004 the M27 "benefitted" from a communications upgrade; i.e. installation of those massive VMSs and surveilance cameras (big brother). They are meant to be automated and overlooked by a control room.

However, despite all of the road sensors and cameras the signs still fail to tell the truth. Midnight on a virtually empty motorway, and the signs flash "40". "Queue on slip road" appears when the slip road is free flowing, and nothing appears when it is blocked up. "Queue ahead" appears when the motorway is closed, and only just before the junction where all traffic is rerouted.

Then you have all of the signs saying "Don't drink and drive, etc".

Millions of pounds were spent on the new system. It is worth noting the effectiveness of the old style electronic signs on the approach to the Dartford Crossing: "Q" is often displayed. It is a single letter, and even if you haven't seen it before you know what it means (if you're an English speaker).

Meanwhile, the concrete section of motorway right next to hundreds of homes is not resurfaced like people have wanted it to be for years. Maybe we should encourage local councillors to actually live in the local area (not five miles up the road). It worked for the J2-J4 section!

For a long time the central lane signs near Milton Keynes junctions had wierdos for miles and then "END" .This went away , notice it's back again .
Think the latest is 50 for miles , even at night with nothing about.

And the ones as you approach the M6/M6 Toll junction always say "M6 congestion J8-10", yet when you take the M6 it's free flowing and congestion free? Hmm, not trying to make a bit of money by any chance?

And the other way - but chances of it being true are higher than not - so why change it - add that to "M6 toll clear" and the ££ flash quite well

If it wasn't my own tax going towards such things I would
find this very amusing but if I laughed at this I am laughing
at myself for being so dumb and funding it.

How can you "evolve" away from funding people who lie
to us continually, who represent unknown corporate interests,
who are all members of the same (usually 'satanic') secret
clubs/agencies/councils/commissions/associations/institutes
but unfortunately for us also dabble a lot in politics?

How can you prevent this?! Answers on a postcard :!:

And just down the road - a crew are busy putting out cones to cone off L3 ---PARTIALLY coned L3, MOTORWAY LIGHTS ON crew not too visible, drivers ( at midnight ) possibly slifgtly tired -
road worker - now ex road worker RIP.

Trouble is that a lot of the time the signs cry wolf - till a real situation comes along.

It is the information on the signs, a lot of it
is useless and dangerous to read, I mean
pointless to read. Come on, if you're gonna
take your eyes off the road then there must be
a good enough reason.

it is not a good enough reason to tell me not
to drink and drive when I do not even drink
ever, is it?

If a sign says "Queue ahead" then of course,
it is worth the money it cost to put it there, yes,
it is even helpful too, but not when it says such
meaningless information.

I would have to argue that looking up at these signs
and reading "Think, don't use a mobile whilst driving"
is pretty much as dangerous, if not MORE dangerous
than actually using a mobile phone whilst driving.

Some people are slow readers, they can read, but slow,
maybe a few (million) of these people also do not want to
ignore a sign on the motorway so you see they MUST read
it. To be told "Don't drink and drive" then look down to see
the car in front has broke sharply... its just ridiculous. It is
all smoke and mirrors, just like everything else.

Hence the short sharp message when drivers could be tired. As i said - when wolf is cried too often problems (not accidents) occur.
