Vonhosen on Pistonheads (Police driver training chap who thinks speed limits are very important) admitted that he knew 30mph zones where 100mph may sometimes be safe and appropriate, while elsewhere in the same zone 5mph may be dangerously fast.

Have some sort of funding for trafpols via results ( but not as present) --make safety the ultmate concern, not income as at present , self funding.

reading this i can see a solution of creating an offence of driving in a dangerous manner exceeding the posted limit which acts as an extra charge not a charge in its own right, I.e. shift it from 30mph safe 31 dangerous to being a case of 35 in a 30 whilst on the phone, or driving erratically. Possibly keep the digital cameras, near schools etc but only use them at times when the danger is present. Win win as the government
can keep its cameras and also create jobs doing assesment as to whether there was any additional danger present in the pics.
