Can anyone advise me.................I was coming back from an interview (sales job) friday travelling on the A1 north t Worksop area, came round a bend and saw a reduced speed sign to 50mph, I was on the outside lane and began to slow down, I was doing about 55mph, when I noticed a camera (truvello) it didn't flash,we don't have many of these in Scotland............would I have been caught ? should it flash.

Any comments on these cameras would be appreciated, thanks.

Don't worry.

As I understand it you simply can't miss the flash.

And with 55mph on your speedo in a :50:, you would almost certainly be well under the prosecution threshold, partly because the minimum prosecution is at speed limit + 10% +2mph (so in a :50: the first prosecution is at 57mph) and partly because speedos almost always over-read, so your true speed was very likely less than the indicated 55mph.

Obviously I do, thanks. I'll fix the original.

From colleague at work - one of these nearly blinded him in broad daylight. So if you didn't see a flash it probably didn't.

If you're going to be driving in camera territory- worth looking at this site
www.speedcam.co.uk or something similar to find out how they work - knowledge in this case is power.

I am fighting a procecution in Lincolnshire and on inspection of the Certificates of Calibration my appraisal is that they are not worth the paper they are written on. Having done a limited amount of calibration testing myself I could instantly see there was alot of information missing from the certificates and inaccurancies on the limited amount of info that there was. The CPS are refusing to forward requested evidence. So my day in court at the end of July should be interesting.

This wouldn't happen to be outside Ryhall would it?

How can there be information missing from the certificate?
Surely it only requires serial number and signature?

Also bear in mind that the "detection point" for a Truvelo is where there are three lines across the road very close together, a metre or two before the camera. If you don't know that, Truvelos can be a little more disconcerting than Gatsos, as you can't be sure that they haven't already detected you by the time you spot them.

If only that were true of (most) talivans. :x

I do not want to put on here just yet what is missing from the certificate, however, my cross reference is the Police Scientific Development Branch Guide of Calibration Requirements for Traffic Enforcement Equipment Publication No. 18/98. When I have completed the court case, if I will gladly give the full information about the Certificates and some of the very tough questions I have ready for the Police Witness.

In addition to the certificate, there were 2 mobile phones in the car, in the Code of Practice reference is made to GSM phones and the separation distance at the time of equipment operation. Bear in mind that although most mobiles we use we think of as 3G 'WAP' phones, they are still capable of supporting 2G 'GSM' phones because of the 2G cells still in operation. The ACPO Code of Practice for Speed Enforcement Equipment gives the separation distance for all individual equipment. The distance between the road sensors and the 3 calibration lines is 1.8 meters.
