Hi,

I have a quick query if anyone can help. Do laser/camera vans have a preset limit by which after that limit they will issue nip etc. For example if you are in a 40 zone will they issue tickets for anyone 40.1mph and over or is their an allowance before ticket issue?.

thanks for your time

H

Technically, in law you can be prosecuted if it can be proven you were doing 0.1mph over the speed limit. However, camera operators usually apply a recommended 10% + 2mph leeway, so they would not normally act until an offender was doing 45-46 in a 40 limit.
Also, car speedos usually overread, by 1 or 2 mph at 40, although this is not assured, (I recently drove a car that under-read by quite a lot). If in doubt check it against a good GSP.
