Guys hope that you can offer some assistance or advice.

Received a NIP from the Metropolitan Police for driving at Excess Speed of 47mph in a 40mph zone.

The alleged offence took place in early January. It has taken this long to get to me as the car is my other halves company car. So the original NIP went to her company, they then provided the authorities with her details as the car is in her name and she then passed them my details as I was the driver at the time of the offence.

I know the road pretty well that the offence took place on and know that it wasn't a Gatso that pinged me so suspect that it was either a handheld radar gun, or a van parked at the road side that caught me.

So what are my options as I quite like having a clean licence and don't particularly want to pay a fine.

If you believe the speed reading to be correct (you don’t appear to be contesting it) then I reckon you would be better off just accepting the penalty. The courts tend not to like people who fight to chance it or for the sake of it.

I can't really agree with Smeggy on this one. For a start the authorities are sloppy in their prosecutions and thousands of people who are innocent in law pay fixed penalties. Nick Freeman (Mr Loophole) claims to have won 50 speeding cases in a row because each and every prosecution case had a fatal flaw. I take that to suggest that ordinary people have a 50/50 chance at least if they put in enough effort.

This is true but compare that to the millions who are fairly nicked. IIRC, it was stated by Vonhosen that 14% of speeding cases are dropped (he never did give me a source for that). So is it worth a steeper penalty for a small chance of none? Furthermore, the people who do fight tend to have a basis for a case whereas the OP clearly doesn’t. Of course he could simply make something up but AtPtCoJ carries much steeper penalties.


True, but the OP is unlikely to get Freeman representing him. Besides, that achievement was a while ago, the system is a lot tighter now and his current rate isn’t so great.
