I have recently received a summons to appear in court for travelling at 59mph in a 30mph zone.

My query is this - within the pack sent, there is an option to plead guilty by post - would this indicate that their is no chance of a ban?
(I was under the impression that if a ban was being considered then the option to plead by post was taken away?)

It doesn’t sound to me as though you will get banned, there are others here that have a better understanding. I've posted a link for you to read and the possibilities. Have a look a page 6. I think it will be down to the judge’s discretion. Do you have other endorsements or points on your licence?

A summons is issued by office staff when the CPS institute court proceedings.
The people who will decide the sentence, if any, take no part in the proceedings until the actual court hearing.

If you decide not to attend, and the court are considering a ban, they will write to you and give you the chance to attend and present any mitigation you may have.
