I read recently that Jeremy Clarkson escaped prosecution because Alfa Romeo only had details of who the car he was driving had been borrowed too, and not actually who was driving.
I have been sent an NIP for the Car that I am currently driving which is a private lease car, so obviously the constabulary have been given my details by the lease company.
Does anybody know if the same would apply to me, and that I could argue that it is only listed by the lease company that I am financing the car and doesn't actually list me as the owner or driver?
I need to send my NIP form back within the next few days as the 28 days has almost ran out, and have already completed it saying I was the driver, so would this override any loopholes anyway?
Any advice wold be appreciated.

The alleged offence was on the 2nd December and the NIP was dated the 10th December.

If you have a S172 request you have to give them information as to who was driving to the best of your knowledge. If you don't know you have to use 'reasonable diligence' to find out (like checking diaries, receipts, etc.).

If you lie then you're "perverting the course of justice" and could go to prison where you can learn how to do proper crime.

If it's not addressed to you then you should do nothing, whoever it is addressed to is responsible.

And you have 28 days to respond, so it is best to use them as they have 6 months from the date of the alleged offence to start the court process.

There are no loop holes, only law.
either you know 100% who was driving or you dont.
It is a very serious matter to give incorrect information.

Then you recieved the first NIP not the lease company. therefore you must be the registered keeper.

Is the car registered in your name? Do you hold the V5 document?
