i was recently driving down a quiet, straight and fast country road that was very wide, it was a 60mph limit and i believe i was traveling at 70-73 mph, there were tree's on either side so i did not see until quite late a old banger in a layby up ahead, i thought nothing of it but then there was a man walking around in a yellow jacket and he had a tripod.

Their didnt seem to be anything on it and i thought it was just a highways agency testing guy, when i drove back to check there was a little camera type device on top of the tripod.

Was this a speed camera? he didnt flag me down, he jacket was yellow but didnt say police, there were no warning signs and he had a terrible old car.

yeh im hoping it was just one of those survey guys because he didnt look too proffesional or police like. I just got so scared!

It probably was nothing more than a civil engineer taking a spec prior to road works.

Our unmarked and marked fleet are equipped. Any acitvity which involves "drying our hair" is usually advertised and we put up signs warning we are checking speeds in our patch anyway.

The rest? Usually a big van over a bridge or behind a hedge or parked up in a dubious position and for which you should be slowing for anyway given the daft parking (Nottingham.. naughty .. naughty to park on those ziz-zags close to a pedestrian crossing. If you are going to check nowty drivers - do so legally As it was - you probably copped no one there as everyone was down to 15 mph because of the danger you were causing there )
