Ladies and Gents,

I've tried to access the http://www.pepipoo.com/ site, but it's not working. I'll keep on trying, any help you can offer would be most appreciated.

I drive a company car, got clocked by a speed camera doing 41 in a 30 near where I live. They have sent the NIP to an address I have not lived at for 4 years, a helpful neighbour forwarded it to me.

What should I do? Deny receiving it? Ask for photo evidence? Check out if the camera was possitioned corectly? This is the first time in my life I have been caught by a speed camera.

I should add (with excitement) that I was photographed on the 7th of December, the NIP was sent on the 16th of January. Is this a "get out of jail" card?

No.

It's a company car, presumably registered to the company or a lease company.

The first NIP has to go to the registered keeper (i.e. whoever is named on the V5) within 14 days. After that there is no time limit up until six months from the alledged offence when it "times out".

Even if it is registered to you it must be at your old address, details on the V5 are incorrect the 14 day rule does not apply.

So one way or the other you can forget the 14 day rule.

And Pepipoo seems to be working now.

No, not recieving it is no defence.

Well you want to know it was definately you don't you, wouldn't want to admit to an offence you didn't commit. That would be wrong, and you would be letting the real criminal get away with it. You might get the brush-off but remember you have time on your side so be persistant. Most partnerships are quite accomodating and will extend the 28 day deadline for returning the NIP.

Certainly. Also make sure the speed limit actually exists in law and is signed correctly.

So what would happen if I simply ignore this, given I only know it exists cos a helpful neighbour from 4 years ago handed it to me.

I would pay it and put it down to experience :)

Then you will get a summons for speeding and another one for failing to identify the driver. Failing to identify the driver is another 3 points + fine and will put your insurance up by more than speeding.

They have 6 months to lay papers with the court. Once they have done that it's fairly open ended, though there is a guideline of 2 years, not being able to find you would probably extend that......

Ignoring it will not make it go away.

Another thing. Why did the NIP go to a 4 year old address? Did they get this from your employer or are your DVLA records out of date? If you did not notify the DVLA when you moved that is an offence it's self.
