my friend was caught doing 38 in a supposed 30 mph rd . there are no rd speed signs on this stretch of rd indicating the max speed but on the otherside of a roundabout the national speed sign is in veiw ( the rd is under the same street name ) i believe it is a bult up area as ther is some street lights though it is on a industrial eastate .

Is this a legal ticket even though there arent any indicators of the max speed allowed .

30mph roads dont need repeaters if they have street lighting, but must still have a sign marking the start of the 30mph zone. So if its NSL into 30mph there must be two :30: signs at each side of road to mark where it begins. If they aren't there then you may have a case. However, if you have turned from a 30mph road into a 30mph road then then no signs are required.

thank you Capri

i will have a drive out tomorrow to find out if there is any 30 mph signs at the end of the NSL part of the rd though i think there isnt any as it was a very quiet rd before they opened up a collage in the area , now the traffic is up by at least 10 times the amount as it was before .

One more thing can the speed limit drop from the NSL to 30 mph as i think i read in the media that it must drop no more than 30 mph in 1 go
and is the NSL 70 or 60 mph in country lanes .?

many thanks for your help i will keep you posted.

JJ - can't help you on allowed drop on speed limit .NSL on country lanes - if car or car derived van under 2T ( eg fiesta van etc) ,NSL is 60 --otherwise try www.highwaycode.gov.uk for NSL limits for other vehicles.
