Stronger the heart - fewer times it needs to beat per minute and so a cyclist has a mjore efficient heart and less energy demand on it. However, be sure to tell the Mad Doc and his type about your training as some doctors might read a low heart beat of 35/45 bpm as oppsoed to couch potato 70 bpm as sign of some ailment

Per the piece in CW - cyclists have a greater oxygen take-up and more Capillaries as muscles will increase capillaires accoerding to need. So more exercise .. the more capillaries and these little blood vessels help us absorb the energy from the glucose in our food and the oxygen we breathe

I'm not sure of my exact details, but even though I've only been at this cycling lark for about 6 weeks, I feel so much better. I've done 300 miles since buying the electronic odometer, so my total is probably around 450. Longest day's ride was 44 miles. And I've lost 12lb in weight so far. Mind you, I had it to lose! ;)

I once measured my resting heart rate at below 30. I wasn't sure whether to be pleased or very worried!

I agree, If I had gone to a Doctor I'd have probably been put on the cardiac ward under observation!
