Hmm - Some one from a cycling club claims that

Quote:
road victims are treated in a despicable way by the governmnent. The latest bill will do nothing to solve the injustice to road victims Laws have been changed but there is no guarantee that the judiciary will support these changes, Jail snetences of over 5years are rare -even though the maximum is 14 years

Each case is decided on the evidence brought before the court.. and consideration is given for time spent on remand and guilty pleas. Seems unfair .. but then some of these people served time in prisin before even being found guilty. If they are then found innocent or even "innocent" - - there is no compensation for time served on remand. Also .. CPS and police evidence is also pretty much on trial here - and it can be darned difficult to actually prove the driving standard was dangerous, Why we may go for the lesser charge just to get the idiot off the road...

She continues

Quote:

Police and prison services do not have the resources to enforce current road safety which makes current efforts to bring in additional laws specious

Yep.. a speed cam can only detect if a person drove past it above its set tolerance. It cannot detect if the person drove past it at a legal speed but straddling the solid white and nearly hitting an on-coming car for example. It cannot detect if that driver was drugged or drunk either.. So .. we need more cops after all. Knew I was not quite a "disnosaur" yet ..

She contiunues that the bereaved will only be included in the Victims Code if the driver is charged.

and says

Quote:

Only 10% are charged with causing death

Well. .. people complain when we close a road down for hours after an incident. We are looking for evry shred of evidence to find out what happened. If we can prove or have good cause to suspect the person caused the incident through very dangerous or negligent /careless behaviour .. we will charge accordingly.

She does mention that despite cyclists claim to be "the most viulnerable" - the percentage of victims is relatively low. It is .. we record the lowest of everything here... and look to improve all the time. London has the highest number of cyclist casualties .. but then more ride and they don't exactly ride any better than the drivers down there drive .. :yikes:

She reminds us that most cyclist are also drivers, ramblers and we are all pedestrians - but naively reckons cycling clubs wield "formidable power" . Not everyone who rides actually belongs to these clubs - and a good many of these are only interesting in race and Sport events.

We have shed loads of laws. You have to enforce current ones before introduciing new ones. To enforce the law properly.. er .. you need old fashioned folk like me.

Just a subtle hint guv.. I'm tryin' to get us some more cash from the 'ome office!
