Per "Enjoy Your Bike" this month .. 50% of us are a bit overweight per the stats. Yeah.. I can confirm - sigh.. as we eat more refined and processed foods and move away from the home cooked "au naturel" which admittedly takes time in preparing .. and can be FUN !"

To keep a weight and lifestyle healthy.. we balance exercise and foods. You do not embark on an impossible diet or drastic exercise routine. To keep it steady and healthy.. it's a bit like the COAST pattern..as in " moderation , calm and steady and 8-) "

A yo-yo diet leads to yo-yo weight fluctuations. It does not work.

So .. I will say "Enjoy" offers sound advice this month (as always  I can truly recommend this rag to leisure/pleasure as it gives the gentler family ride-outs)

Basically .. cycle regularly Build a 30 minute loop at least inot a routine.

Enjoy your food. Have the odd treat.

Be aware of what you eat. IG's CW wonder foods is an excellent thread healthwise. (and he asks the family for simpe recipes to help folk get the "cooking bug"
)

Be aware of what you are eating. Processed foods are convenient .. but not exactly wholesome. Once in a while .. fine.. but not as a continuous diet.

Vary your cycling. Pedal hard and then ease off. Include some hills in your ride

Do not be a diet slave. No harm in the odd "treat". It satisfies a yearning.

Never skip breakfast .. EVER

A breakfast ... be it a yogurt.... freshly juiced fruits .. . toast.. sandwich.. fruit.. cornflakes. yogurt drink even .. really does kickstart your day.

Never let yourself get "run down". Always stay hydrated .. milky drink or water mixed with a teaspoon of glucose.. or portion of fruit always helps - especially after a ride or long walk.

Be aware of salt. fat content in some foods you do buy such as crisps and microwave "readies" and some margarines.

But to stay really healty.. you need fruit, potatoes, , bread, rice, milk, dairy products, meat, fish and the odd fat and sugar as provided in moderation by olive oil, sunflower oil, decent chocolate, fruits, and old fashioned home baking  in moderation of course

By the way. The "Enjoy Your Bike" does review Sustrans routes which any family of all abilities should enjoy .. even recoemmending family pubs and restaurants.

I can thus recommend as a decent browse and potential buy if recommended route reviewed is "down your way"

But .. I think my wife and myself do possess the right genes and lead a healthy lifestyle as we are exactly as our nick names suggest

sleekly feline :rotfl:
