Per CW this week .. Ullrich announces his retirement.

Ullrich stormed onto the scene in 1997 .. claiming the Tour de France Crown that year. He was a star. Sadly for Ullrich .. Lance dominated .. and he was always the "also ran" thereafter as far as "Le Tour" was concerned.

But as we know .. Ullrich was embroiled in a shock drugs fiasco.. and this has ultimately ended what should have been a glittering career in ragged tatters. He is and should be regarded as innocent until proven otherwise.. but one cannot help but feel a waste of such talent. CW journalists appear to have similar views from their piece as do Cyclo Sport. C+ has yet to publish - and I am sure their next issue will also carry this story.

Meanwhile Landis agreed to interview with CW. He still insists he was innocent of any wrongdoing .. and I would say CW wrote a fair account of this interview in which Landis does appear frank but resolute to his innocence re. the "substances" in the analysis.

Worthy of a read. He does have the right to defend himself .. but decisions as to whether he cheated or not will rest with those hearing his case anyway.
