Cue the bike meter some time where you pay for parking and get fined if a second "late" or whatever...

CW reports that bikes parked "inconsiderately" will be

Quote:
forcibly removed

Apparently a new Bill being proposed ny London Local Authorities and the Transport for London will aloow council offifials to remove bikes chained to railings, lampposts etc without any warning   :?

The LCC London Cycling Campaign thinks this will

Quote:

arrest the growth of cycling in London

Ah.. come on .. LCC - they see income here.. cue the meter post for bicycles  along with ID for cyclists and their bikes. Told ya :P  Nowt to do with safety .. and if there's no cars and lots of bikes... they want their cash regardless

The measure is supposedly about removing clutter from London streets per the LLA /TfL

DOH! Now you really torn it by calling bikes clutter

Cue :hissyfit: :typing: across the keyboard virtual cyclists :hehe:

I love the quote from the LLA -

The LCC is getting its knickers in a twist and being deliberately misleading

A bike will only be removed if it obstructing the path of a pedestrian. It would be removed after 14 days.

The LCC is urging all London cyclists to write to the Mayor and all the councillors to protest over the fact that

Quote:
Council officers will be able to remove bikes immediately "fro good or safe management of the hightway if they cannot trace the owner "

:? :? :? :?

But if abandoned bike..

There is not enough cycle parking in London. If this law is passed - it will become a lottery; bike owners may go to wrok and come out to find no bike to ride home on

Under the proposed law - the officers will have to leave a note in place of the bike they have removed. Owners will have 14 days to reclaim the bike. After that the council can dispose of the bike and charge the owner for the cost/

:? :?

But how will they do this - given bikes do not have to be registered..

Unless .. :?  :P :o :o

:surprise: I will bet moves to have cyclists register their bikes is coming around the corner

Told ya. :P

More bikes = more legislation = more rules = more enforcement of these rules.

Blimey..
