So.. accidents happen even if you BAN cars!

This cyclist was "walking" the dog whilst cycling (a :nono:) The Labrador (Henry) took a fancy to a lady jogger coming towards them. (If you own a labrador .. you know these dogs are daft to point of insane .. but very friendly :cloud9: Ours are just cute bundles of pottiness  )

Anyway the dog's lead wrapped around the bell on the bars und as Henry leapt at the jogger to give her a "doggy kiss" - the lead jolted the bicycle und the cyclist went over the bars. :yikes:

He broke his left shoulder und upper arm in the fall, He need surgery.

So .. :scratchchin: How many of the recorded accidents with cyclists are really the fault of a naughty car driver in all reality

:gatso2: It doesn't surprise me that cylists "walk" their dogs. I recall an experience I had two months ago when driving home at night. I was approaching a traffic island at a series of bends near a junction. It always pays to decrease speed there because there are usually cars parked either side. Anyway, as I approached the island, I saw two cyclists, riding their bikes on the pavement. They both suddenly decided to turn right and cross the road over the island. As they did so, I exclaimed, "WTF!" Or words worse to that effect when I saw that the lead cyclist had not ONE but TWO....YES TWO  big Alsatians tied to the bike frame! I braked to avoid a collision and was nearly rear-ended because of those two bicycling buffoons. If I had collided with that bike, those two dogs would've been killed.

As I said one before.

I would be interested to know what cycling casualties occur in enviroments where large numbers of cyclists were/are the norm.

(EG Pre-Boom China, 1930's industrial midlands etc)

You know the sort of thing, where Thoudands of cyclists are all trying to negotiate crowded roads.

I would suspect that accidents would be frequent and severe and fatalities not uncommon, and quite likly worse than with a similar number of people using cars .

:bunker: After my comment I'll have to hide from the pro bicycle lot. Sadly I dont believe the nature of people on these Islands is one which naturally lends itself to any kind of safe bicycle riding at all. We have prtty crappy road users across the board, a nation of people that seemingly take extra time and effort to make something very very simple, very very dangerous and non more so than cyclists. You can follow almost any bicycle rider and you will witness sooner or later, mr or mrs stupid taking over the controls, some quicker than others and some more frequent than others. Unfortunately they are more vulnerable so the onus for safety is layed at the foot of the motorised lot, but equally unfortunate is the majority using motorised vehs are plonkers too. :bunker:
