While the County Council and Sustrans argue over the routes from Windermere to Keswick, cyclists can get on and enjoy themselves on a new route at Whinlatter.

Lake District bike trail to open

The longest purpose-built mountain bike trail in the Lake District is to be formally unveiled.

Lord Clark of Windermere will be the guest of honour at the opening of the Altura Trail at Whinlatter Forest.

The 19km (11.8 miles) route near Keswick, is owned by the Forestry Commission and opens on Monday.

The trail is a red grade which means it is challenging and only for experienced cyclists. The route takes in views of of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite.

For those of you who work your own hours or who can manage flexitime, WheelBase Cycle warehouse is open late on Thursday nights up to Christmas - as is the Hawkshead Brewery and Organico, so you might make a day of it - and leave the wife shopping at Lakeland!
Of course they are all open on Weekends too!

Now that's a tough choice as I like fiddling with gadgets in the kitchen. :hehe:

Off topic - but when TG did the blender sketch powered by a V8 engine complete with acccelerator .. :rotfl: I confess that the thought had crossed my mind that the team had met those Mad Cats

OK - me and Ted will check it out and post up with photos to whet appetites ... In fact  a safespeed jolly - just to get foolk on bikes  and we will challenge weepy. Last one home buys in the beer :drink2:
