CW reader was in training for the "Londpn-Brighton" when he and his cycling mate were hit by a car from behind. The driver claimed he did not see them because

 and perhaps we need to foucs on high sun/hard rain and well as black ice dangers

The sun was in his eyes

Anyway both riders ended up in hospital.

Police were called. They took statements but are not going to prosecute the car driver. The riders claim the road where hit was straight and flat. They think if he'd hit another car - he'd have been "done for careless" and claim they are "second class because they are lowly cyclists"

Nope .. more vulnerable gets benefit of doubt unless proven otherwise as "rule of thumb" these days. Kent would have investigated thoroughly to see who was to blame. I would not like to speculate as my views on being "blinded by sun" would be as if in fog or heavy rain as in stopping if you really cannot see ahead .. try to adjust eyes/sunvisors/glasses until you can see sufficiently ahead so that you can stop safely in distance you can see to be clear and address speed/gear accordingly  We are still back to COAST base point though all the same

The writer plans to lobby and get others to lobby for changes to the law. Unfortunately - as with samandben - much of this requires training for all road users, common sense responsibility = all forgotten skills!

Take with a chuckle or a grain of salt
Drive without COAST and it's all your own fault!

A SMILE is a curve that sets everything straight (P Diller).

A Smiley Per post

Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon - but driving with a smile and a COAST calm mind.
