Olympic cyclist's wife knocked off bike
September 21, 2009

OLYMPIC gold medallist Bradley Wiggins's wife has been involved in a road accident in Rufford, Ormskirk.

Cath Wiggins was knocked off her bike on Sunday, according to posts made by her and her husband on the Twitter website.

Wiggins - who won two golds at Beijing last year and finished fourth in this year's Tour de France - wrote: "Cath Wiggins got knocked off her bike today by some silly old sod going to the garden center (sic), Very ****** Off!!!"

The 29-year-old was unavailable for comment on Monday, according to his management agency.

Mrs Wiggins wrote on her Twitter page: "Stopped at a T junction and was knocked down from behind. Bloke said 'sorry, didn't see you, and anyway I'd nearly stopped didn't hit you that hard.' erm, well...my bent bike and the fact that I can barely bloody move says otherwise...and I feel very, very lucky! No more road bike..."

Antagonising

The collision came a week after TV chef and motoring columnist James Martin apologised for antagonising cyclists.

Reviewing an electric car in the Mail on Sunday he wrote about forcing a group of cyclists off the road.

But he did a U-turn after Wiggins posted unprintable comments about him on Twitter.

Martin said his piece was supposed to be humorous and not intended to cause offence.

On Monday a Lancashire Police spokesman said: "We got a call at about 10.20am yesterday to Liverpool Road in Rufford, Ormskirk. The informant called to say she was on her bike and somebody had driven into the back of her.

"It sounds dramatic but she insisted she didn't need an ambulance - it was bike damage only and no injuries were involved."

Bike damage only FFS :banghead: It was criminal ruddy damage . FFS
